काठमाण्डौ,नेपाल – बांग्लादेश की संसद ने मिर्जा फखरुल इस्लाम आलमगीर को देश का नया राष्ट्रपति चुना है।
बांग्लादेश में करीब 35 साल बाद 23वां राष्ट्रपति चुनाव प्रत्यक्ष मतदान के जरिए हुआ।
सत्तारूढ़ बांग्लादेश नेशनलिस्ट पार्टी (बीएनपी) से उम्मीदवार बने मिर्जा फखरुल इस्लाम आलमगीर 255 वोट पाकर राष्ट्रपति चुने गए हैं।
उनके प्रतिद्वंद्वी उम्मीदवार सेवानिवृत्त कर्नल ओली अहमद को 88 वोट मिले।
नवनिर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति आलमगीर सत्तारूढ़ बांग्लादेश नेशनलिस्ट पार्टी के नेता हैं।
वह पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना के प्रमुख विरोधियों में से एक रहे हैं।
2024 में छात्रों के विरोध प्रदर्शन के बाद शेख हसीना को सत्ता से हटा दिया गया।
शेख हसीना अब भारत में रह रही हैं. बांग्लादेश ने भारत से उसके प्रत्यर्पण की मांग की है।
आलमगीर ने कठिन समय में बीएनपी का नेतृत्व करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उन्हें अलग-अलग समय पर कई बार गिरफ्तार भी किया गया।
बांग्लादेश में राष्ट्रपति का पद मुख्यतः औपचारिक माना जाता है।
लेकिन प्रस्तावित सुधार के अनुसार कहा जा रहा है कि राष्ट्रपति के पद को अधिक शक्तियां दी जा सकती हैं, जिससे देश के शीर्ष नेताओं के बीच शक्ति संतुलन बनाए रखने में मदद मिलने की उम्मीद है।
